Plein Air Painting

Plein Air Painting is a French expression meaning “in the open air.”  Working in a natural light, French impressionist painters such as Claude Monet, Pissarro and Renoir, advocated painting outside.

The Carmel Art Festival held each year in the month of May, celebrates this method.  Artists can be seen on the bluffs above the beaches, alongside the meadows, and anywhere exquisite, capturing on canvas the beauty of the outdoors.
